Every May, the whole school prays for sunshine and heads to the Salem Common for the annual May Day Celebration. Girls in brightly colored dresses with flowers in their hair and boys in brightly colored shirts sing and dance for their families. The celebration ends with the older students winding and unwinding the brightly colored ribbons around the May Pole, and then accepting bouquets of spring flowers from their younger partners who skipped around the May Pole to find them. This event is followed by Grandfriends’ Day.
